So, here we are again. Back to the seventies. Why, because the cost of oil went down and we did not need to change or methods.
This is a boomerang and it doesn't need to fly back this way again. Yes, the price of fuel is currently going down, but it is going to increase again. So now is the time for us to make some changes in our behaviours.
In short, I think T. Boone Pickens is onto something and the first major distribution company to take advantage of it is going to make some money.
Uh, how. Where are the big cost's for a major retail/distribution company (or a trucking company as well)? I'm not talking about where their capital investments are but their operating expenses.
Labor and the cost of delivery. A trucking company, labor and fuel.
So if one of these companies could invest in a fleet of natural gas hybrid trucks the potential savings could be incredible and if they can get energy tax breaks for the fleet that is even better. There are a number of hybrid concepts available and UPS is working with one of them -- a diesel hydraulic model.
The difficulties would be refueling not very many natural gas fuel stops around
